10 DAOS students selected for National Youth Orchestra 2018!

We are delighted to announce that 10 students from Dame Alice Owen’s have joined an elite group of musicians who have been selected to form part of the National Youth Orchestra in 2018. They were selected from more than 700 talented musicians!

Congratulations to the following students on this fantastic achievement:

Robin Day (1st violin), Jeremy Weinstein (1st violin), Louisa Ayerst (1st violin), Sabrina Davis (principal, 2nd violin), Kourosh Ahmadi (2nd violin), Gabriella Bavetta (2nd violin), Eleanor Davis (2nd violin), Alice Dadswell-O’Gorman (2nd violin), Sam Scheer (viola) and Sam Weinstein (string leader, cello).

Year 12 student Robin Day, said “I feel it is my duty to inspire other young people and teenagers to get involved in classical music and to experience the pleasure I get from it on a daily basis.”

Don’t miss our Winter Term Production of ‘Twelfth Night’!

Rehearsals for ‘Twelfth Night’, by William Shakespeare, in an adaptation by our Head of Drama Miss E Govier and N Kiernan are in full swing!  This production features students from Years 10 to 13 many of whom are studying GCSE Drama and A Level Theatre Studies.

Performances are this Thursday 14th, Friday 15th and Saturday 16th December 2017 in the Main School Hall at 7.30pm.

Let’s Dance 2017!

Our annual ‘Let’s Dance’ competition took place this week! Congratulations to Lucy McClean and Amber Kotey (Years 9 and 7) who won with a street dance. Year 8 student Isla Baillie came 2nd with a contemporary dance and Marlene Bucher and Isabelle Young in Year 7 who came 3rd with their contemporary dance. Very well done to all competitors involved.

Miss Martin, Mr Dugan and Miss Choudhuri had the difficult task of judging the talented entries from years 7-9.

Many thanks to Miss Martin who arranged the event for students and special thanks to Mr Dugan for not only judging but compering the event as well.
