Mr Pepper hands over the baton!
The Orchestral Concert on Thursday 14 July saw Mr Pepper conducting his last concert at Owen’s, after an impressive 25 years of service directing the school’s outstanding Symphony Orchestra. After a thrilling performance of Tchaikovsky’s Fourth Symphony and a standing ovation, Mr Pepper ceremoniously handed over the baton to Mr Wilson and Mr Widden, who will be carrying on the great tradition of orchestral performance here at Owen’s. Staff and students paid tribute to Mr Pepper’s commitment, dedication and support of Symphony and Chamber Orchestra and we all wish him the very best for his retirement.
800m European success for Year 11 student!
Congratulations to Year 11 student Issy Boffey who was crowned European Youth champion over 800m on Saturday 16th July. The European Athletics Youth Championships took place in Tbilisi, Georgia and in the final Issy blew the rest of the field away in the last 200m to win by over a second. This is the first time Issy has represented Great Britain as she represented England last year.
More Sporting Achievements!
Well done to Year 10 student Jasper Den Dulk who won the National Doubles Rowing Championships in Nottingham at the weekend. This is Jasper’s 1st National title and hopefully it will be the first of many!

Author Caroline Green visits Owen’s library twice!
‘We were delighted to be able to round off the term with two visits from author Caroline Green. Caroline has visited the school several times before, and her thrillers are very popular with our students. Caroline signed copies of her books for Year 7 students. We are grateful to the OSA for enabling Caroline’s Year 7 visit.
On Friday 8th July Caroline spoke to some Year 7 classes and certainly inspired them to read her books. On Monday 11th July Caroline returned as guest author for the Sixth Form Independent Reading Day to hold a creative writing session with our Year 12 students. Caroline spoke about her work as a writer, about creativity and the importance of reading, and then encouraged our students to try some creative writing tasks themselves using song lyrics as inspiration. This was a lovely opportunity for our students to explore creative writing beyond the exam syllabus’.
