World Book Day at DAOS!

To celebrate World Book Day next Thursday 1st March the Library Department are having a Book Fair which is being launched at Year 7 Parents’ Evening this week.

They are also delighted to announce that local author Penny Joelson will be visiting the School next Thursday. Penny’s book “I have no secrets” is one of the World Book Day special recommended books and she will talk to all of Year 7 in a special World Book Day Assembly and then speak to some classes in their English lessons. We very much look forward to welcoming Penny to DAOS!

Soul Bands get their groove on!

The legendary Owen’s Junior and Senior Soul Bands were on awesome form for one of the highlights of the school year – the spectacular Soul Band Evening. Parents, staff, pupils and friends packed the Main Hall to enjoy a brilliant night of classic soul, funk, pop and jazz numbers, with lights, mirror balls, dry ice and dancing in the aisles all adding to the party atmosphere.

The bands’ sets included songs by Nina Simone, Shalamar, Destiny’s Child, Ariana Grande, James Brown, Otis Redding, Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson, all superbly arranged for Junior and Senior Soul Band by Seb Skelly and Ben Abelman. All the pupils in the instrumental and vocal line-ups of the bands showed such great talent and such great support for each other, it was a wonderful evening to be part of.

Our thanks to all the students who played and sang so well, to Mr Kelly and Mr Grimstead for their brilliant musical direction, to Mr Skelly for all of his inspiration and assistance, to Ms McNally for her inimitable vocal direction, to the invaluable DAOS Tech Crew for all of their help in sound/lighting production, to the Year 13 Music Technology students, to the Music Department staff for all their support and to the OSA for providing refreshments.

We’re already looking forward to next year!
