Junior Concert wows audience!

On Wednesday 23rd May 2018, our Junior Concert saw over 200 fabulous young musicians from the lower years of the school involved, performing to an enthusiastic audience of parents, families, staff and friends.

The immense variety of musical styles performed by pupils in Junior Brass Ensemble, Drumming Group, Junior Percussion Ensemble, Junior Strings, Second Band, Junior Clarinet Ensemble and Second Orchestra ensured that the evening’s programme was entertaining and engaging, with everything from Beethoven and Saint-Saens to Herbie Hancock and Michael Jackson.

The EGH stage was full to capacity for the exhilarating massed sound of brass, woodwind and percussion in Second Band, along with the real symphonic-style blend of Second Orchestra, who finished off the concert wearing pirate hats and eye-patches to play excerpts of the soundtrack from Pirates of the Caribbean.

There were also some exciting opportunities for pupils to showcase their improvising skills within some of the jazz-style pieces, which took real individual courage and conviction in front of such a large audience. Congratulations also to Isaac Scheer, who made his EGH conducting debut in front of Junior Strings, with a performance of his own arrangement of ‘I Feel Pretty’ from West Side Story.

Huge congratulations to all of the pupils involved in the concert for their impressive level of playing and a huge thank you to their musical directors for all of their hard work and encouragement – Mr Kelly, Ms Browne, Ms McChrystal, Ms Jones, Mr Crossley, Ms Coe, Mr Bean and Mr Grimstead. Thanks also to Mrs Meik, Mr Werner and Ms Jenkins for all their help and support in organising the evening.
