Junior Chamber Concert success!

Following last week’s Senior Chamber Concert, this week saw the turn of our younger and incredibly accomplished pupils, who gave us a evening of wonderful performances in the Junior Chamber Concert.

The EGH was full of parents, families and friends who were treated to a wide-ranging programme featuring solo performances from Zak Ahmed, Josh Gearing, Dea Peshkepija, Alice Proffit, Gabriella Bavetta, Doraly Gill, Marguerite Pan, Aidan Lee and Kayla Nicol. Zoe Gunasekera and Lydia Littlejohn performed a vocal duet, whilst Ishan Gopaul, Ben Connolly and Oliver Zhao joined forces to form a piano trio.

There were also highly enjoyable ensemble performances from the Cello Ensemble, Flute Choir, Junior Brass Ensemble, Double Reed Ensemble, Junior Percussion Ensemble, Acoustic Guitar Ensemble and the Junior Saxes.

Our thanks to all those pupils who took part, to the musical directors (Mrs Dodds, Ms Huneke, Mr Kelly, Mr Marshall, Ms McChrystal, Ms Coe, Mr Niesyto and Mr Crossley), to Ms Gill for her superb accompanying, and to Ms Meik and Ms Jenkins for concert production and front of house.

An Astonishing Musical Feat!

Our Music Department has recently received the very exciting news that one of our Year 10 GCSE Music students, Maxim Lavrov, was awarded Distinction with an amazing full marks score (100/100) in his Grade 8 Trinity Piano Exam.

Having already attained Grade 8 Distinction on the violin, Maxim took his Grade 8 Piano exam in December, aged just 14, and his success in securing full marks is an achievement which is almost unheard of at this level.

A truly stunning performance – huge congratulations, Maxim!

Mental Health Awareness Week at DAOS!

This week is ‘Mental Health Awareness Week’ in school. Our mental health is as important as our physical health, and in form times and assemblies we shall be thinking about how we can take steps to improve our own mental health, as well as how we can reduce the stigma surrounding mental health issues.

Non-Uniform Day reminder!

Just a reminder that Friday 9th February is Non-Uniform Day! Please could students give £1 to their Form Tutors on the Friday morning.

All proceeds will go to The Rwanda Sisterhood Association which is a charity dedicated to reducing the risk of maternal and child mortality.
