5th March 2018

Shakespeare comes to DAOS!

Once again, we enjoyed a visit from The Globe Players at DAOS this week, with their wonderful Shakespeare performance, ‘What you Will’.

This fascinating introduction to Shakespeare for Secondary schools follows the development of Shakespeare’s career, from The Comedy of Errors to The Tempest, and features many of his most famous scenes along the way. Extracts from Richard IIIMacbeth, and Romeo and Juliet, to name but a few, intrigued and entertained our students. The production is intended for Key Stage 3 students and supports Year 7 with their study of Much Ado About Nothing.

This event is always a valuable experience for the students and feedback was incredibly enthusiastic. Many thanks to the English department for organising it!

World Book Day 2018!

We were delighted that the snow did not stop our World Book Day celebrations on Thursday 1st  March!

Year 7 were treated to a special World Book Day Assembly with the author Penny Joelson, whose book “I Have No Secrets” is one of the five books which is currently available at a discount for World Book Day. Penny read the enticing opening from her book, and explained a little about the story. “I Have No Secrets” is a first class thriller, with many plot twists and interesting characters.

Penny then went on to inspire our students with two creative writing workshops in the library.

Students were given lots of excellent tips for writing, and practiced developing their character’s voice.

It was particularly thrilling to have an author whose book had been chosen as a World Book Day special title visiting the school on World Book Day itself.

The special £2.50 edition of “I Have No Secrets” is available from participating bookshops at this special price (or £1.50 with a WBD token) until 25th March, subject to availability.
