Honduras Conservation Trip Summer 2017

This Summer fifteen sixth formers accompanied by two teachers travelled to Honduras for a two week conservation trip.

The first week was spent in Cusuco (one of the world’s few cloud forests) with a team of international academics. The students camped ‘off grid’ in the rainforest and collected data on carbon, biodiversity and community benefits of the forest.  This data will be used to apply for a $30million carbon credit scheme which will help protect the forest with its many endemic species including the beautiful jewel scarab beetle.

The second week was spent on Roatan a coral island in the Caribbean. Here the students completed a PADI open water dive course and a series of lectures on Caribbean coral reef ecology.

Many thanks to Mrs A Whitehead for organising this amazing opportunity!
