Chamber Concert kicks off Autumn Concerts in style!
A busy half term for Owen’s musicians kicked off on Wednesday 6th November in the Edward Guinness Hall when some of our chamber groups showcased their work, as well as some GCSE Music students’ solos.
For some it was their first time on stage in a DAOS Concert, while others were sharing with us the experience of many years. The evening featured The Guitar Ensemble with no less than 14 guitarists, our Year 8 and Year 10 and 11 String Quartets and some wonderful solo performances from Gabriella Bavetta, Kayla Nicol, Isaac Sheer, Josh Gearing and Katya Kirby. For the fitting finale we were treated to a group of experienced Owen’s musicians playing together for the very first time which was breathtaking! Well done to Eleanor Davis and Jeremy Weinstein on violins, Jemima Atputharatnam on viola, Matthew Mayes on cello, Doraly Gill on double bass, Joe Loveday on clarinet, Jess Brady on French horn and Dora Goudie on bassoon!
Our thanks go to James Widden, Joe Niesyto, Janna Hunneke, and Katrina Makepeace-Lott for their direction, tuition and accompanying.
A Harvest Festival Thank-you!
Many thanks to everyone who donated to the Hatfield Foodbank for the harvest festival collection! This year, the number of items collected exceeded all expectations and will go a long way for providing emergency supplies and support for people in crisis.
OSA Quiz Night Success!
The OSA (Owen’s School Association) would like to thank all those who attended or otherwise supported the Autumn Quiz night on Saturday!
280 guests (parents, sixth form students, staff, alumni and friends) tested their knowledge in a wide range of categories such as entertainment, food, music and politics. The evening was a great success and raised well over £6,000 for the school.
A big thank you to all those who worked so hard to make the evening such a fantastic success! Do keep a look out for the next OSA event next term!
