Summer Concert sizzles!

The EGH stage came to life once again on Tuesday evening with the thrilling sounds of our multi-talented instrumentalists and singers, who came together to showcase yet more of the highest quality music-making at Owens.

There were some stunning performances by Junior Big Band, Senior Chamber Choir, Senior Big Band, Symphony Orchestra, Concert Band and Senior Strings. The programme included some fantastic jazz numbers by Miles Davis, Buddy Rich, Duke Ellington, Sammy Nestico, Pat Methany, and an inspired arrangement by Joe Loveday of John William’s Raiders March.

The confidence of solo improvising in the Big Bands, the smooth and polished voices in Senior Chamber Choir, the awesome sound of the massed brass and winds in Concert Band, the panache of Symphony Orchestra and  the sublime blend in Senior Strings were a real treat for the EGH audience of parents, friends and families.

A special goodbye and huge thanks to Mr Marshall who conducted Symphony Orchestra for the last time before the baton passes to Ms Bamber – he was thrilled to be able to lead them in a performance of Beethoven’s 5th Symphony – opening their ears to probably the greatest symphony ever written!

Congratulations to everyone who performed in the concert and to all their musical directors, Mr Crossley, Ms Makepeace-Lott, Mr Kelly and Mr Widden for their expertise and inspiration. Thanks also to all in the Music Dept for their help in organising the evening, to Wesley Wilson for lighting/sound and to the OSA for providing refreshments.
