GCSE Results 2018!

Huge congratulations go to our fabulous Year 11s and their teachers who worked so incredibly hard to ensure their GCSE success, we are so proud of you all, your hard work has paid off!

As you know, all GCSEs except for Business Studies, Computer Technology, Textiles, Economics and DT(Resistant Materials) have moved to the new 9- 1 grading system where 9 is the top mark which can be awarded (higher than an A*).

At Dame Alice Owen’s, we are thrilled that 30.6% of all new GCSE grades awarded were a grade 9, with a further 21.2% of examinations being graded 8 and 18.1% graded 7. With 20% of all legacy GCSEs (the old style ones) being awarded an A* and another 41.6% of these grades being awarded an A grade, that brings us to 69.4% of all grades achieved being 9-7(A*-A) compared to 67.5% last year.

A fantastic 96% students achieved 5 or more GCSES at standard pass/grade C or above including English and maths.

It has been widely reported that only about 200 students in the country will achieve a “clean sweep” of grade 9s, we are so proud of 5 of our students who each achieved a full house of 11 grade 9s.

I am sure that parents and students join the governing body and I in thanking the staff for their relentless efforts to help students achieve their very best. The governors, staff and I equally thank our supportive parent body for all they have done to help and encourage all our young people through such a difficult time.
