You might not know this yet, but Dame Alice Owen’s School is over 400 years old. That makes it one of the oldest schools in the country. The school was originally in Islington, and only moved to Hertfordshire in the 1970s.
All of the houses are named after places important to the original school in Islington, to help us to keep our links with the area. You can read more about the school’s history here.
The fields of Clerkenwell are believed to be where it all began, where Dame Alice’s hat was hit by an arrow, and where she made her commitment to do something good for society if she were ever in a position to.
The original school was for students from Islington and Clerkenwell.
The Clerkenwell house colour is Red
