Advanced Learning Partnership

Dame Alice Owen’s School acts as the Lead School of the Advanced Learning Partnership (‘ALP’), which is made up of a collection of schools in Hertfordshire and North London who work together to deliver training and support by sharing the expertise we have as individual schools and the research we have undertaken as a partnership.

We offer outstanding provision of initial teacher training, led by Watford Grammar School for Girls via the School Based Training route. We have developed a clear and distinctive ethos and aim to offer a bespoke service.

The ALP also provides continuing professional development opportunities for existing teachers and teaching support staff.  Our offering includes:

    • The Senior Leaders Programme, which is delivered by Headteachers and Deputy Headteachers of our Partnership schools and which prepares participants for the job of, and application to, a Senior Leadership Team.

    • The Middle Leaders Programme, designed for aspiring middle leaders and which teaches the key qualities and skills required for this position.

    • Forums, which provide a networking opportunity for those in similar positions to share ideas and good practice.  Some of our current forums are for Designated Safeguarding Leads, SENCOs and Librarians.

    • We also provide one-off CPD sessions on relevant issues or subject specific topics, such as Unconscious Bias, Retrieval Learning, Metacognition etc.

The Advanced Learning Partnership also acts as a Lead Partner of the Alban Teaching School Hub, with whom it has collaborated closely with on the delivery of the Early Careers Framework from September 2021, providing facilitators and a venue for training.
