On Tuesday 31st January, the Year 8 girls netball team played in the semi final of the U13 Herts County Cup. They faced a strong St Albans High School team and the last time these two teams met in the league, the game resulted in a draw.
Owens got off to a flying start, taking an early lead. Excellent defence from captain Hannah who created numerous turnovers. In the second quarter, a few unforced errors crept in and STAHS took the lead. However the girls showed great resilience, Annabel worked tirelessly in the mid court, turning over several passes at critical moments. Heading into the final quarter, the girls were losing 10-12 but were determined to leave nothing on the court. Issy kept a cool head and fed the ball beautifully to Freya, whose long range shot flew through the net! From that moment the girls were on a roll. Freya and Riya did not miss and showed immense calm under pressure. The result – a 17-16 WIN!
The girls now progress to the County Cup Final against Presdales on Thursday 23rd March.
