From over 21,000 entries, a stop motion animation; March of the Bins, by Sam in Y12, has been selected to be exhibited both online and at the Royal Academy of Arts for the Young Artists’ Summer Show.
Sam’s work was inspired by the impact of lockdown – ‘Following the lockdowns that disrupted schools over 2020 and 2021 I imagined what lonely places school sites must have felt like during the pandemic. I thought of the site coming to life as it lay undisturbed with no students around. To show this I planned a stop motion of the numerous, usually static bins coming to life on the desolate school site. To replicate the emptiness of lockdown myself and two friends, Charlie and Eiden, came into school on an inset day in order to film the stop motion undisturbed’.
Congratulations to Sam, Charlie and Eiden in Year 12 and we look forward to seeing the animation at the Royal Academy of Arts from the 18th July. Sam’s animation can also be viewed below.
