As October draws to a close, we have spent this last month celebrating Black History Month.
It has been a busy time “Saluting our Sisters” and doing our best to highlight some of the great black women that have left a mark on the world in their respective fields. The theme also pays homage to the women who had ideas that may have been ignored or appropriated or had their voices silenced.
Photo below shows Mr Sykes hosting a cooking demonstration and tasting session where he showed a lucky group of students how to make his famous ‘Jamaican Curry Chicken‘ which was enjoyed by all.
We had a fantastic assembly led by students from Years 9, 11, 12 and 13 which highlighted why we were celebrating black women this year and how this will continue as a school community.
We also held a screening of “Hidden Figures” – the film story of three black women who revolutionised NASA and our Sixth Form Senior Team put together a brilliant quiz for students to get involved in.
