Students Shine in BBC 5 Live Interview

On Tuesday 7th January, a group of our students had the exciting opportunity to represent the school on BBC 5 Live. Nico S (Year 9), Safa H (Year 8), Anya A (Year 8), Thomas S (Year 9), and Stanley M (Year 9) took part in an interview that highlighted their insightful perspectives on the impact of internet use and social media on teenagers. Scroll down to listen to the interview!

The students’ contributions were featured as part of a larger segment with Professor Naomi Fineberg, the lead researcher for the groundbreaking Bootstrap study. Funded by the EU Horizon Programme, the Bootstrap project is exploring how digital habits affect young people’s mental health and aims to provide evidence-based solutions to support teenagers in today’s digital world.

Dame Alice Owen’s School is one of just four schools in the UK participating in this pioneering research, and we are incredibly proud to be at the forefront of such a vital initiative. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students and the wider school community to contribute to a meaningful and impactful study that addresses a pressing issue of our time.

We Need Your Support!
To ensure the success of this study, we are encouraging as many students as possible to take part. By participating, you’ll be helping researchers gather valuable data to better understand the relationship between internet use and mental health. Rest assured, all data collected from students’ phones will be treated with the utmost confidentiality. The research team will not be able to identify any individual from the data collected.

The Bootstrap team will visit our school on the 21st and 28th of January to assist students in downloading the study app, provided parents and carers have given their consent.
