‘Concertos and More’ Concert –

Although it seems like no time at all since Year 13 students took to the stage in their first concert as fresh-faced Year 7 pupils, the opportunity came again on Tuesday evening to celebrate the amazing individual talents of some of our senior musicians.

In the first of two concerts this term which will feature Year 13 students as soloists, the programme featured movements from Johann Neruda’s Trumpet Concerto (soloist : Neve Mayes), Ney Rosauro’s Concerto No.1 for Marimba (soloist : Louise Wise), Henryk Wieniawski’s Violin Concerto No.2 in Dminor (soloist : Mia Dedic) Erich Korngold’s Violin Concerto in D (soloist : Jeremy Weinstein) and an arrangement of Arthur Pryor’s ‘Thoughts of Love’ (soloist : Dylan Gunasekera).

Brilliantly accompanied by their fellow students in Senior Strings, Symphony Orchestra and Concert Band, the  musicianship and level of virtuosic ability of all the soloists was stunning, and it was wonderful to see them performing in front of an audience filled with parents, families and friends.

The programme also featured a premiere performance by Senior Strings of Expanse composed by Stuart Hancock, who we were delighted was present in the audience to hear his piece being played.

Concert Band and Symphony Orchestra dazzled in their own ensemble pieces, El Capitan March, Gaelforce and Le Carnival Romain Overture, while Close Harmony Group showed exceptional polish and beautiful vocal blend in their performances of ‘Til There Was You’ and ‘Can You Feel The Love Tonight’.

Congratulations to all the soloists who performed with such confidence and flair, and to their ensemble conductors, Ms Bamber, Mr Kelly, Ms Makepeace-Lot Mr Widden, who tirelessly encourage and support our young musicians.
