A Level Results 2023

Huge congratulations go, once again, to those students who received their A level results today.

These are the first results that the country has seen without any mitigation for the disruption caused by Covid.  It is important to remember, however, that students taking A levels this year have had a tumultuous education since the March of their Year 10.  These students did not sit formal public examinations in Year 11 and suffered great disruption due to the impact of Covid variants throughout their time in Year 12.

It is therefore all the more impressive that students have, indeed, achieved in line with their peers from 2019.

This year 44% of students (91) achieved 3 or more A/A* grades, with 13% of students (27) achieving 4 A*/As and a remarkable 5 students achieving four or more A*/As including a grade A* in their EPQ.

61% of all grades achieved were A*/A, with 27% of all exams graded A* and 34% A. 22% of grades were awarded at a grade B resulting in 83% A*-B, which is truly excellent.

All 22 students who were offered places at Oxbridge this year  (10% of the cohort) have been able to accept their places; indeed almost 90% of students have been able to immediately accept their university place.

Of course, a single set of letters must neither define our young people nor detract from the many ways in which they have grown nor from all that they have learnt over their time at Owen’s.  We are so proud of how much this cohort has contributed to the school through their willingness to get involved and support others, their kindness, their achievements and involvement in sports, the arts, charities and alike. These are young people who know their mind, are socially aware, have learnt to question and think and who have the skills and understanding that they need to be able to go off, successfully, to their next adventures.

We wish everyone well.  Remember to  stay in touch!
